Jane Austen Bridal Shower

March 22, 2018

Our lovely oldest daughter is a language arts teacher, and is also a big fan of Jane Austen. When she became engaged a couple of years ago, before her wedding Laurie and sister/maid-of-honor-to-be Emily hosted a Jane Austen themed bridal shower tea for her.

It was so much fun coming up with ideas for her shower! Pinterest was such a great place to get started.  Practically any possible bridal shower theme that you could dream up (and even some that you can't even imagine!) can be found on Pinterest!  (Shameless plug:  you can follow our Lottie Elizabeth Pinterest board here).

The first thing to do was design her bridal shower invitation. We had her invitations printed professionally, and have used Overnight Prints for years for family graduation announcements, wedding invitations, etc., and they do a great, inexpensive job! We have no affiliation with Overnight Prints, but highly recommend them.  They frequently have great sales too. Check out their website here.

This is not Ashley's actual bridal shower invitation, however, after her wedding we put many of the designs we made on our Etsy shop.

We served a brunch with tea, and had over 40 guests in attendance.

It was so much fun decorating and creating favors, games, etc. in a Jane Austen theme!

We designed these posters and had them printed at Overnight Prints too.

Of course no bridal shower is complete without some silly games and door prizes! These games were fun to play from a few little girls that were present, to the groom-to-be's 95 year old grandmother!

It was such a lovely afternoon!  Ashley received lots of nice gifts to start out married life, and while she didn't use these thank you notes - they were actually requested by a customer a year after Ashley's shower, they would work nicely for after-shower thank yous!  These can also be printed through Overnight Prints, or any local printing company.

Ashley's wedding, which was a month later, was a Victorian theme, but her colors were purple and silver.  Bridal Showers themes and colors don't always need to be the same as the wedding, and it was nice to separate the bridal shower from her wedding decor.

The designs shown in this post later became items that were put in our Etsy shop and offered as digital, printable files.  This is an inexpensive way to use some of the designs that we used in our Jane Austen Bridal Shower Tea.  You can find them here.

Until next time, as Jane would say:

  1. I loved the idea of those posters. I was just looking at these pictures with my husband and now we’re planning to print out posters for our wedding anniversary next week. We are organizing a party at one of the beautiful wedding venues and we want to relive the memories from our wedding days. The posters will be a great addition for decorations.
